The son of Albert & Sarah, born in Pudsey and having lived on Crawshaw Hill, the family later moved away from the district. Harold went on to serve with the Lincolnshire Regiment and sadly was killed in action on 22nd March 1918. He is now remembered on the Arras Memorial, and also hopefully one day at Pudsey Cenotaph as well.
With thanks to Paul Smith for helping to identify Private Harold Davey #49617 of the 2/4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, as having a strong Pudsey connection.

Remembering Percy Greaves, son of Joshua and Margaret Greaves, 20 Sun Street, Stanningley. Buried in Pudsey Cemetery 100 years ago.
The section dedicated to the WW1 names on the Cenotaph is currently undergoing a major revamp.
Once complete it will directly link to the plaque on each face of the Cenotaph, to properly describe the men named and the service that they gave to the Nation. In addition there will be a debut section dedicated to the many MISSING names that have not been added to the Cenotaph. This is a 95 year old issue that has been waiting too long to be rectified. It is hoped that this will be combined with a new information board located at Pudsey Cenotaph, dedicated to the memory of these lost men. |
