Thomas Huggan, youngest son of Alderman Joseph and Elizabeth Mercy Huggan. Born 16th September 1898 in Pudsey, Thomas attended Fulneck School and Marlborough College before joining the Royal Flying Corps in 1916. Serving first as an observer for 7 months in France after 26/12/1916. He applied and was accepted for pilot training with 27 Training Squadron. On the day of 24th July 1917 during a training flight, his Maurice Farman Shorthorn A2470 fell into a fatal spin and Thomas was killed on impact. He was still only 18 years old. He is today buried alongside his family in Pudsey Cemetery, his cousin Captain Robert Salter is buried at Lonsdale Cemetery on the Somme.
