This is a link to an online spreadsheet detailing those that are recorded to have died or are missing from the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) from the 1st of July 1916. This data is taken directly from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission database and illustrates known deaths/missing in action only. Please refer to other research for total casualties and injured. What this does illustrate is the shocking toll amongst the 10th Battalions, the 15th Leeds Pals and the 16th & 18th Bradford Pals. The 10th Battalion attacked at Fricourt and suffered the biggest single loss in the British Army that day with 305 dead including 6 from Pudsey (10 officers, 295 NCOs and Private ranks in total). 133 members of the 10th are buried together at Fricourt New Military Cemetery.
The 15th Leeds Pals suffered nearly as badly losing 222 men including 4 from Pudsey - please see the Their Stories section of this website. The 16th Battalion, Bradford Pals lost 148 including 3 Pudsey men. The 18th Battalion, the 2nd Bradford Pals lost 99 men including Joe Forrest Skirrow of Pudsey and their Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Maurice Nicholl Kennard.
