Born 25th September 1924 at Pudsey. Son of Richard Binks and Dorothy Binks (nee Tarbotton), brother of Pauline Elizabeth Binks. Norman was second cousin to Hazel McCabe who was a year younger than him. They both joined the Royal Navy in WW2 and although they were stationed at opposite ends of the country, Norman in Scotland and Hazel in Portsmouth, they kept in touch by letter and often saw each other when they went home on leave. Hazel became worried when she received no reply to her letters and was told the tragic news of HMS Bullen by her Commanding Officer who had been contacted by Normans C.O. Norman was second cousin to Hazel McCabe who was a year younger than him. They both joined the Royal Navy in WW2 and although they were stationed at opposite ends of the country, Norman in Scotland and Hazel in Portsmouth, they kept in touch by letter and often saw each other when they went home on leave. Hazel became worried when she received no reply to her letters and was told the tragic news of HMS Bullen by her Commanding Officer who had been contacted by Normans C.O.
